$40,000 raised to honor Stephen's 40th birthday... EXCEEDED!

Marathon #10, 4/20/09 Boston, MA - 4 hours, 27 minutes, 13 seconds
My 10th and final marathon to honor Stephen was all about friendship! I ran as Steve's Team with running partners L to R: Sally Holtzman, Alison Phelan, Karen Giroux and Stephanie Cooper. Marathon day brought a wild headwind which made for a cold ending to the day, but the journey was amazing and something I'll always remember.

Marathon #9, 10/11/08 Baltimore, MD - 4 hours, 13 minutes- a PR!

Baltimore was a tough, hilly marathon and the unexpected heatwave (70's during the race) made it even more challenging. Still, I ran a personal record which was a nice surprise as my goal for this race was survival rather than speed. The expo at Raven's Stadium was very good, and the finish line was outside Camden Yards. I'm glad I toughed it out, but not sure I'd do it again!

Marathon #8, 11/10/07 Richmond, VA - 4 hours, 17 minutes

I felt great during this marathon! I heated up early and threw my long sleeve shirt away, but regretted it later when the wind kicked up and it got quite cool. The cold motivated me to run faster to stay warm, as I did my best time to date during this race. Several miles of this course goes through a beautiful reservation area next to a stream which was one of the most beautiful marathon stretches to date.

Marathon #7, 10/1/06 Portland, OR - 4 hours, 54 minutes

Portland started out great, and ended up not so good! What I thought would be a record time came to an abrupt halt in the last six miles when my calves locked up after climbing and descending a very high bridge. At one point my calves were so tight I thought I'd have to tippie toe to the finish! I was greated by "what happened to you" by Doug at the finish line- which I guess sums it up...

Marathon #6, 4/17/06 Boston - 4 hours, 55 minutes

I'll remember this marathon because of my unexpected running partner, Tim Clarke, who I ended up partnering with for the entire race. For me, it made it a much more enjoyable experience, but I believe Tim got heavily fined in rotary for crossing the finish line with me- sorry Tim!

Marathon #5, 10/30/05, Washington DC - 4 hours, 56 minutes

Washington DC was a great trip. The marathon route has some amazing sites on it- as well as some boring stretches of bridge - but boy was it crowded as you can see in this photo taken well into the race. This was Doug's first marathon, and it meant alot to me that he was able to be part of this journey.

Marathon #4, 11/7/04, New York City - 5 hours, 45 minutes

Where to begin... NYC is a fantastic marathon that I would highly recommend, but on this particular day I woke up with a stomach bug which resulted in lots of time spent waiting in rest room lines along the route, which my time shows. It wasn't until about mile 20 when I started to feel "better", but by then my time was so slow a bicycle sweeper on the course rode by and said to me "what are you doing back here?". Still, it was great to see some familiar faces at the finish line, where friends Beverly Marra, Joanne Scott and Margaret Cote greeted me.

Marthon #3, 6/6/04, San Diego, CA - 5 hours, 12 minutes

I picked San Diego because of their legendary great weather, only to find out there is something called "June Gloom" which is just about the time of this marathon. The entire week including the race was cloudy, cool and misty. I was very underdressed, and my teeth were actually chattering at the finish line! While I would recommend San Diego for a vacation, I would not recommend this marathon as much of it was on a very long stretch of highway- BORING!

Marathon #2, 10/12/03, Chicago - 4 hours, 45 minutes

I had a great time in Chicago! It was an easy start right near my hotel, with tons of support and cheering on the course. It is also very flat, which is why my time was so much better than Boston. There is really just one bump in the whole race at about mile 26, and you could hear everyone groan when they saw it. It was warmer than expected so I was a bit overdressed, but I felt great the entire time and really had fun with this race.

Marathon #1, 4/21/03, Boston Marathon - 5 hours, 19 minutes

No experience will replace my first marathon with Lisa Rose. Everything from the wicked winter training to the finish line photo with a ray of light from heaven was amazing. As we had never run a marathon before, so our only goal was to cross the finish line in less than six hours which is when they threaten to shut the clock down. We made it with time to spare!

4/16/01 105th Boston Marathon

This is a shout out to friend Kennon Anderson who ran the Boston Marathon in 2001 to benefit the Stephen M. O'Grady Scholarship Foundation. Kennon raised over $6,700 and gave me the idea to start running my own marathons... thank you, Kennon!
